Position Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) - EmPath Unit

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our EmPath Unit. The EmPath Unit is dedicated to providing specialized care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a critical role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with mental health disorders in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. 

Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients presenting with acute psychiatric symptoms.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, as appropriate, in accordance with state regulations and best practice guidelines.
• Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services for patients in acute distress.
• Facilitate therapeutic groups and individual counseling sessions to address patients’ psychiatric and psychosocial needs.
• Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
• Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision sessions as scheduled.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and interventions in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Demonstrate a commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of patient care delivery.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of Virginia.
• Certification as a PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills with a patient-centered approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and patient care management.
